The Church as a Community
Have you noticed in the book of Acts that the early church did a lot of eating together? They went from house to house having fellowship and growing together. This is something we have lost in many churches today.
Some people think of church as a place to go. They hardly ever even think of it as people, when in reality, the church is people not a building.
Some people think of church as going to a worship service. They connect singing and listening to a message as being church. Worship is good, but if all we do is come to sit in a room together or sing together, we have missed the meaning of church.
The Bible uses several analogies for the church. One is a building. Another is a body. Of course, a building is very different from a body, but they have one main thing in common. They are both made up of many parts that are connected with each other in vital ways to cause them to be a strong unit. That is how the church is designed. We are supposed to live in community with the people being connected, so we can help each other to be strong in the Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 12-14.
