Trees of Righteousness
We had our monthly deacons meeting tonight. It is always a joy to meet with our deacons at NHBC. This time Richard brought the devotional out of Isaiah 61:3. His theme was that God wants us to be "trees of righteousness" that He may be glorified. He did a great job with connecting this verse with some verses on how being humble and contrite is pleasing to God.
Think about this imagery. Tree are not proud. They can't take the credit for anything. They bear fruit by the design and power of God, but not any effort of their own. Trees don't brag. They are silent, but they stand as a strong testimony to strength. I'd say that is a great picture of a humble Christian.
Let's all grow strong in the Lord. Let's put our roots deep into His Word, and let's lock our roots together with other believers, so we can support each other in the storms of life. Let's allow the Lord to empower us to bear much fruit for His glory.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 35-37.
