Hurting Marriages
My heart breaks as I see all of the hurting marriages around me. Marriage should be the closest possible relationship on earth. It should be a cause for satisfaction and contentment. Instead, there are so many marriages that are filled with strife and discontent. I know this fact breaks God's heart, too, because He used marriage to represent our relationship with Christ. (Ephesians 5:22-33)
We all need to realize that God's design for marriage is intimate communication and love. God joins two people together to be "one flesh" not just because of a physical union, but a union of the souls. He has the desire for each marriage to be happy and fulfilling. We must stand up for God's design for marriage, because it is seen so rarely today, even among believers.
If you are in a hurting marriage, I want you to know that God can heal it, and He wants to heal your relationship, so that it can be a little bit of heaven on earth. If you have experienced a broken marriage, please, know that God wants to heal your hurts. He does not want you to be miserable the rest of your life. However, it takes seeking real forgiveness from Him and from others.
The Bible assures us that God puts a priority on marriage, and He hates the breaking of that covenant. He knows that good marriages make good families; good families make good societies, and good societies make a good world. (Tony Evans) God's desire is for His will to be done on earth, as it is in heaven. That goes for marriages, too.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ecclesiastes 3-5.
