God's Plan for Our Growth
I have been very encouraged in my reading through the book of Proverbs again this year. Over and over there are verses that talk about getting insights from other people, even in the form of a rebuke. A wise person will receive that input and grow from it. A fool will think he knows best and continue making the same mistakes.
The reason for this is that we can do a lot of things to help us grow spiritually, but there is one thing we can't do well. We can't really be objective about ourselves. We tend to be too lenient on ourselves and to have blind spots where we don't see what we are doing. Another person can see those things, so we need that objective input to aid in our spiritual growth. (Proverbs 27:17) That is why every serious believer needs a close friend who is not just a "yes man." We all need a friend who cares enough to tell us the truth, so we can grow to be as much like Jesus as possible.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Proverbs 28-30.
