White Elephant Gifts
We went to the Christmas party for one of our Connection groups from the church tonight. It is always a lot of fun to get together with our church family. The food was great, and the fellowship was even better. We laughed and just enjoyed each other. I wish unbelievers knew how great it is to be saved.
One of the things we do each year is to exchange "white elephant" gifts. They are gifts from around your house that you don't want any more, or maybe, they are obsolete. Some are very funny, and some are still useful to other people, but just not for you. I got three golf balls, and a golf club cleaning kit. To me that is useful, because I have been known to play golf. To the giver it must have been useless.
These gifts made me think about how Jesus looks at us and loves us. He doesn't look at any of us as useless or obsolete. He sees a good purpose for us. He loves us for who we are, and He wants us to belong to Him, so He can bring out the best in us. I am sure there are many people in the world who feel hopeless and abandoned, but they shouldn't. They should look to Jesus. He will always be there to show them a wonderful life here and a future in Heaven. I am glad that with Jesus, He loves every white elephant gift.
Then, each year there is one real white elephant in a gift box. It could be a bank or a vase, but it looks like a white elephant. Whoever gets that gift has to display it in their home for the coming year. Then, they wrap it and bring it back to the party the next year for someone else. Each year we wonder what we will do with the white elephant if we get it. Well, Jesus is always proud to have us, and He displays us prominently as one of His children. He will never reject of us, once we trust Him as Lord. What a wonderful Savior!
Tomorrow, I intend to read Daniel 3-4 and I John 5.
