Preparing for Thanksgiving
What all are you having to do to get ready for Thanksgiving next week? Are you taking extra trips to the grocery store, or at least, buying more than usual? Are you getting ready for family to come? Whatever your preparations, they could make you so busy that you miss the real meaning of the holiday. I hope you will not do that, but you will prepare to celebrate the real meaning of Thanksgiving.
I am sure we are all thankful for our health, our families, and all of God's blessings. This year we should rejoice if we have a job and enough money to have a special meal or take a trip, because many people are doing without. As wonderful as these things are and as much as we need to thank God for them, there is something more to be thankful for. What do you think it is?
I have been telling our academy students about God, so they can tell people who ask them. I told them that God, the Father, is the All-powerful Creator and Sustainer of all things in the universe. God, the Son, is the God-Man who gave His life for us on the Cross by shedding His unique blood as a payment for our sins, so we can be forgiven and have eternal life. God, the Holy Spirit, is God who lives in us, as believers, and He is everywhere in the universe. Therefore, if we know Christ as Lord and Savior by turning from our sins and trusting Him, we have nothing to fear, because we belong to the One True God, and He has promised to protect us forever.
Now, in a world where we don't know what will happen with our economy next year or with the war on terrorism, isn't that something for which to be very thankful? I believe it is the ultimate reason for us, as Christians, to be thankful this year, even more than ever. No matter what happens, we are going to be fine. We have a home in Heaven, not made by hands, created by Jesus just for us. No one can take it away. Praise God! He is worthy of all thanks and praise!
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 18-19 and James 4.
