Experiencing a Miracle
This morning I read the book of Ruth in my unhurried time with the Lord. It is a great book to teach us about miracles. Naomi had basically given up after the death of her husband and her two sons. She decided to go home by herself, so she told her two daughter-in-laws to stay with their families in Moab. Of course, Ruth would not listen. She was committed to staying with Naomi wherever she went. So they set out for Bethlehem together.
Naomi was depressed, and she thought she would never have another son, much less any grandchildren. Ruth, on the other hand, was open to what the Lord had in store for them. She went out to glean in the Barley field, and she unknowingly found the field of their closest relative, Boaz. From there a love story developed. Ruth and Boaz were married, and their son, Naomi's grandson, was, Obed, the grandfather of King David. What a miracle!
Naomi went from being hopeless to having a grandson. Ruth went from being a widow to being an ancestor of the greatest king in Israel's history. How did it happen? Ruth was willing to trust God and to follow His direction. God blessed her faith by working a miracle. It was not what she expected, it was even better. That is how it can be with each of us, too. We just have to trust the Lord, and believe He can do anything. Then, we leave the results up to Him.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 40-42 and Hebrews 4.
