Thinking Outside the Box
I know many of us were raised in church, and we have a mental picture of what a church is to be like based on how we were raised. I believe that is holding us back in the USA. The way we have always done things is not working now, so we need to change. Without change the church will die out for the most part. God does not want that to happen. He wants us to think about the early church and other examples of how we can do His will. Then, we can reach more people and be more effective. The only way to do this is to refuse to be stuck in our old box.
A lot of people have been saying this for several years, but it is just now making sense to the majority of Christians. Our mission is to reach people for Christ and to disciple them. Our mission is not to keep doing the same things over and over.
I am excited about our church family and other churches who are serious about following the Lord, even if it means some drastic changes. The thing is that we need to get back to what the Bible says. Unfortunately, that is a whole different box than we have been in for years in America. Therefore, we have to think outside of that box. The only thing that matters is allowing God to work through us to reach people for Christ. The message doesn't change, but the methods will change over time.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 21-22 and John 14.
