Where We get Our Theology
I run into people all of the time with different beliefs about God. They are convinced that they are right in their beliefs. However, the question is, "Where did they get their belief?" It does not matter if you are very sincere in what you believe, if you are sincerely wrong. Your mother or father may have taught you wrong. Your pastor may have taught you the wrong thing. You may have read a book about God that was false. There is only one source of truth upon which to base our beliefs and that is the Bible. (II Timothy 3:16,17) Anything or anyone else could lead you astray.
The Bible is inerrant and infallible. It does not contain errors, and as long as you understand it correctly, it will never lead you in the wrong way. On top of that every believer has the Holy Spirit to lead him or her to all truth. Therefore, if we allow the Spirit to teach us God's Word, we can and will know the truth.
However, many believers still base their theology on songs or sermons. They believe what a person told them, instead of God. They even believe what makes them feel good. None of these things will be valid when we stand before God. The only thing that will matter is that we know Him, and He knows us. The instructions for knowing God come from His Word. That is the only way. Nothing else will work. (Matthew 7:21-23)
Now, I want each of you to look in God's Word and see what He says about knowing Him or theology. Makes sure you base your life on the truth.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 15-16 and Mark 6:1-29.
