Baptismal Service
I have been looking forward to our baptism service all week. We have several folks who are going to follow Christ in baptism. It is always a great celebration, but this one is even more special to me.
Most of the time we have a game time and a cook out on Sunday evening before Memorial Day. This year we decided to have a baptism service because there were several people who were waiting to be baptized, and it was a good time for them. I did not think about it at first, but it is very fitting to have baptism on Memorial Day weekend. Of course, Memorial Day is when we take time to honor the soldiers who have died to protect our freedom. Without them giving the ultimate sacrifice for our country, we would not be free, and we might not even be alive today, ourselves. It is very important for us to remember the role our military forces have played in protecting us.
However, the Ultimate Sacrifice of all times was Jesus dying for our sins. He died so that we could be free from sin and have the freedom to do God's will. Because He died, we can be free. Each of the people who are being baptized tomorrow evening owe their freedom and their eternal salvation to the substitutionary death of Jesus, as He took their place. They should be so thankful and ready to follow Him wherever He leads them. His death brought us life and freedom. Isn't that fitting for Memorial Day? I pray that everyone in our country would realize that great truth, too, this weekend.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 25-27 and John 9:1-23.
