Who Can Find a Virtuous Wife? - Proverbs 30-31 and II Corinthians 11:1-15
The book of Proverbs concludes with a marvelous passage about the worth of a virtuous wife. The Lord tells us that a wife of excellence is worth far more than rubies. That is an understatement. There is no way to measure the worth of a faithful wife and mother. Her faithful heart, her good attitude, and her hard work make a family a warm, loving place to belong. She provides love and clothes. She completes her husband well, so he can become what God intends for him to be. I praise God for my virtuous wife. Besides coming to know Christ, she is the greatest blessing in my life. I know that any of you who are married to a faithful Christian wife would be able to say the same.
The church is the bride of Christ. Jesus, Himself, is looking for a virtuous wife. The church is to have the right heart, the right attitude, and the right works to be a blessing to her husband and to those who need the Lord. When Paul wrote to the believers in Corinth in II Corinthians 11, he was afraid that the bride was being unfaithful. He was afraid that the bride of Christ in Corinth was following after other gods and false teachers. That is spiritual adultery. It is very serious. Paul was exhorting them to remain faithful to what he had taught them, so they would be faithful to Jesus. I wonder if Jesus came to our church, if He would find a virtuous wife? Would He find a wife of excellence? Would He find us having the right attitudes and actions that please Him? That should be our goal as a church. We do not live for ourselves, but for the Lord who loved us enough to die for us and to save us from our sins. We should be totally submissive to Him and to His will and try to please Him in every way.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ecclesiastes 1-3 and II Corinthians 11:16-33.
