Fear God and Keep His Commandments - Ecclesiastes 10-12 and Galatians 1
Solomon tested every lifestyle and every possible pursuit of man to find the real meaning of life here in this world. At the end of the book of Ecclesiastes he gave his conclusion. It is a very wise conclusion at that. Fear God and keep His commandments. That is the prescription for living the best possible life for each of us. The truth is that when we mess up and get in trouble, it is because we have not feared God, and we have not kept His commandments. We need to hear this wise conclusion and apply it in our lives each day. We need to remember that we are not God, and we never will be God. We do not have all knowledge, so we can't know everything, but He does. We need to remember that He loves us more than we love ourselves, so we can trust Him to give us the right commands and the right direction for our lives. If we will do that, we will find the real meaning of life.
The church in Galatia was having trouble related to this truth. They were fearing man instead of God. Paul had founded the church upon the truth he had received by revelation from God, Himself. Now, the believers were following mere men, who were teaching falsehood. The reason for this problem was that the believers were not fearing God and keeping His commands. They were fearing these men and keeping their commands. That happens many times when we allow ourselves to care more about what people think than what God says. We must not fear men more than God. That leads to great trouble. Whenever we follow the teachings of men, it leads to trouble. Only God knows best and leads us fully in the right way. Paul had to try to get the Galatians back on the right track. We all need to help those around us get back on the right track, too.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Song of Solomon 1-3 and Galatians 2.
