December 29, 2006 - Zechariah 9-12 and Revelation 20

These two passages are full of prophecies. Isn't it amazing how God is able to reveal to men exact things that will happen in the future? Each prophecy that has come true is a proof that the Bible is inspired by God, and it is His Word. Each fulfilled prophecy is an assurance that the other prophecies in the Bible will come true in the future. I pray that each of us will consider the specific truths of God's Word as we read these prophecies today.

Zechariah was able to tell the world that King of the Jews, Jesus, would come into Jerusalem riding on the foal of a donkey. (9:9) He was able to tell us all about Judas taking the 30 pieces of silver and throwing them in the house of the Lord for the potter. (11:12) He confirmed again that God loves Jerusalem, and He will defend it. (12:3) He was even able to communicate that Jesus would be pierced, and those with Him at that time would mourn greatly for Him. (12:10-11) Zechariah may not have been able to understand all of these details, but he knew what the Spirit was directing him to write, and he was faithful to deliver God's perfect Word to us. This shows the great plan of God, and how He is working it all out in the world around us.

Then, consider the prophecies of Revelation 20 in light of the fulfilled prophecies of the Bible. One day Satan will be bound for 1,000 years. Jesus and the saints will reign on the earth during that time. There will be a short rebellion at the end of the 1,000 years, but Jesus will triumph. (v.9) The Devil will be sentenced to the Lake of fire forever, and the Great White Throne Judgment will take place. Everyone who did not trust Christ as Lord will be judged and sent to an eternity in the Lake of fire, too. If you want to argue with any of these things, you have to argue with every other prophecy in the Bible that has already come true. That is not a wise thing to do. The right thing is to surrender to Jesus and become a true disciple of Jesus, so that you will be prepared for an eternity with Him in heaven.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Zechariah 13-14 and Revelation 21.
