December 25, 2006 - Zephaniah and Revelation 16

I want to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas this year, as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I pray that you will find time to praise Him for His wondrous grace and truth, and to read His Word today. It is fitting that we should read about the Day of the Lord on Christmas. It reminds us that Jesus came into the world as a baby, but when He returns, He will come as an Invincible Ruler. His Second Coming will be the true Day of the Lord that Zephaniah had a glimpse of so long ago and that John speaks about in Revelation 16. Jesus is alive, and He is coming back. It is of the utmost importance that we are ready to see Him.

Zephaniah makes it very clear that the Day of the Lord is a terrible day for those who are not living in right relation to God. It is the day of God's wrath against sin. (1:15,16) The only way to miss the wrath of God is to seek Him in humility. (2:3) Then, when we seek Him, we will find the quietness and security that comes from knowing Christ. (3:17) I pray that you know that peace from the Prince of Peace.

Revelation 16 shows us the beginning of the Ultimate Day of the Lord. You can feel the power of God just by reading of the 7 last bowls of His judgment. Can you imagine sores on everyone, nothing alive in the sea to eat, no water to drink, terrible pain from a scorching sun, and then, darkness? That is how it will be right before Jesus returns as the Invincible Ruler. Even the Euphrates river will be dried up to prepare for the final gathering at Armageddon. What a picture of the power and the wrath of God. Please, seek the Lord now, before it is eternally too late.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Haggai and Revelation 17.
