December 28, 2006 - Zechariah 5-8 and Revelation 19
As another year comes to a close, and we begin a new year of life, we need to hear the message of Zechariah and apply it to our own lives. God has a zeal for Zion or Jerusalem, and He wanted the Temple to be rebuilt. (6:13;8:2,5) However, what God desired the most was to have the wickedness gone and to see the people live in true righteousness. God defines that righteousness in Zechariah 7:9-10 and Zechariah 8:16-17. Isn't it interesting that in both cases God's emphasis is on treating other people in a righteous way? Why does He not emphasize how we feel about Him and how we obey Him? I think the answer is that our relationship with others shows us our relationship with God. We can't really love God and hate others, as John tells us in I John. However, when we do love God, we will love others as He does. What kind of love does God have for others? He was willing to die for them. I believe we should all take time to consider our relationships with others and what we need to do to make them right.
Revelation 19 is a glorious chapter, because the focus is on Jesus returning to the earth. The marriage feast of the Lamb is held in heaven, so all the believers are married to Jesus in their white robes to signify righteousness. Then, Jesus mounts the white horse and all of us as believers come back to earth with Him to reign for 1,000 years. (v.14) Notice the description of Jesus as He returns. What a glorious sight it will be. Then, He puts an end to the Antichrist, the false prophet, and the armies that have amassed against Israel without firing a shot. He uses the sword of His mouth, which is the Word of God. I do not know when this day will come, but it will come, and we should stay ready to meet the Lord at any time and to be a part of His return.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Zechariah 9-12 and Revelation 20.
