May 23 - Psalms 23-26
How many times have you heard or read the words of Psalm 23? What did the Lord say to you today as you read it again? He spoke to my heart through verse 3 in a special way today. The Lord is the one who restores souls. He is the one who leads people in the paths of righteousness to know and to do His will. Whenever I need the restoration of my soul, I must run to Him. Every day I want to listen to Him, so he can lead me into the paths of righteousness for this day.
Psalm 24 is like Psalm 19 in that it speaks about the qualifications to stand in God's presence, but here it adds about Jacob seeking God. What did Jacob do? He wrestled with God that night that his soul was in such distress, and he would not let go until he received a blessing. God blesses those who seek Him tenaciously.
Psalms 25 and 26 contain another theme of the Old Testament that is very important. It is God's lovingkindness. What does that mean? Basically, it is the fact that God always is faithful to keep His part of His covenant with us. It is His covenant love. He has a special commitment to us once we have come to trust Him. This faithful love based on our covenant relationship causes Him to act in mercy and grace toward us, but we must not presume upon His lovingkindness. We must not think that we don't have to keep our part of the covenant, too. Our part is to lovingly obey Him and His Word. If we will fear Him and obey Him, God will richly bless His family. David goes so far as to ask God to examine his heart and mind to make sure he is right with Him. Do you want God to look closely at your attitudes and actions? I hope you can feel confident like David did. I pray that we will keep our part of the covenant with our Lord Jesus today.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 27-30.
