Receiving like a Child
Children are so unassuming and transparent. It is easy to see and to hear just what is on their mind. They ask such great questions, too. There is no telling what they will come up with. Their enthusiasm is contagious, but when they are sad, it just breaks your heart. We all need to remain more like children in so many ways the older we get.
Jesus knew this. He loved the children, and He respected them for their good qualities. (Luke 18:17) He told all of the people He was teaching one day that whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all. He did not totally explain what He meant by saying that. However, I believe He wanted us to consider it seriously.
One thing about children that is very apparent is that they trust their parents completely. They believe whatever they tell them, and they are ready to follow them wherever they go. It is not a blind trust. It is a trust based on their experience of being nurtured by them. We have to be the same way, if we are to enter the kingdom of God. Our faith in Jesus must be genuine and strong.
Also, children are so open to learn and to grow. They love to play games, and they get so excited when they are able to win the game. They want to be the best they can be at whatever they do. If we want to follow the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we have to do it with open hearts, ready to possess everything He has for us to do. After all, it is His kingdom, and we are to do His will fully.
