An Everlasting Covenant

God is so gracious to us when we sin against Him. He gives us the opportunity to repent and to have salvation from our sins. He establishes and everlasting covenant with us. That is what He did for the people of Judah and Jerusalem after their horrible rebellion against Him. Yes, He punished them according to their abominations, but after that He remembered the covenant He had made long before, and He established an everlasting covenant with them. (Ezekiel 16:59, 60) That is amazing grace!

God is still working in the people of Israel today, even though many of them do not believe in Jesus. He is honoring His everlasting covenant that He established with them. That does not mean that they are saved and going to heaven, but it means that He is not through with them as a nation. One day, the Jews who are alive after the rapture of the church will be saved, coming to Christ as their Lord and Savior. God has made His covenant, and He will honor it. The same is true for us, as believers. We may stray from Him, after trusting Christ, but since He established an everlasting covenant with us, He will not cast us off. He will punish us and draw us back to Himself. That is the gracious character of our God. He is forever faithful, once He establishes an everlasting covenant with anyone.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 17-19.
