A Prophet has Been Among Them

Ezekiel had a very difficult mission from the Lord. He was sent to speak to the people of Israel in Babylon right after they had begun their captivity there. They were still very rebellious, so few of them listened to the message of the Lord he delivered faithfully. However, God sent Him to preach to them, whether they would hear or not, and He said that the result would be that the people would know a prophet had been among them. (Ezekiel 2:3,5) There are times when God send us on a mission like this or when God sends us a prophet, so we will have a chance to hear Him.

We all can hear from God. However, hard hearts that are rebellious to the Lord have a very difficult time discerning His words to them. The words just don't sink in. If those words are never spoken, we can never have a choice of what to do, though. Therefore, all believers must be open to God sending us to people who do not want to hear. We become the one source of hope they may ever have. God is so merciful that He always gives people more chances to obey Him than they deserve. We need to heed His call and go for Him, no matter who He sends us to reach. Also, we need to tell ourselves to watch for prophets among us. It may be that others will scoff at them, and we may be tempted to go with the crowd, but it may be our only chance, so we need to listen, no matter what others may say. Whether it is being a prophet or hearing a prophet, God's message must be heard. Let's do what we can to speak it and to hear from His prophets.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 3-5.
