Like a Lily among Thorns

What a word picture! What a contrast! Think about a lily among thorns. Then, remember that Song of Solomon is a love story about king Solomon and his wife.(Song of Solomon 2:2) What is he saying to her that we need to hear?

Love is wonderful. It comes, and it grips our hearts. Yes, we must decide to love another person. It is a decision, but the decision comes swiftly many times, because we are attracted to that person by their beauty or their uniqueness. It does not have to be great physical beauty, because beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Something catches our eye and enthralls our heart, so that we are smitten with love. When we look at her or at him, it is like looking at a lily among thorns. No one else comes close to this one for us. Why would we want the thorns when we have a lily? Chris is my lily. I have no desire for another, and if I did, I would be crazy, because the rest are thorns to me.

The same is true for Jesus. He is the Ultimate Lily among the thorns. He is unlike any other god. When we are smitten by Him, we decide to love Him and Him alone. All other gods are thorns; why waste time with them? Why be pricked and stuck by them. Embrace the Beautiful Savior. Admire the Lord of All. Love Him with all of your heart, mind, soul, and strength. There is none like Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Song of Solomon 4-7.
