Eternal or Temporal?

If we want our lives to count for something eternal, we must fear the Lord and do His will. What God does is eternal, but what we do on our own is temporary or temporal.(Ecclesiastes 3:14,15) As Solomon searched out the meaning of life, that was what God showed him. We need to learn from the wisest man who ever lived.

Life without God is useless. When we act on our own, we accomplish nothing lasting. It is only when we follow the Lord and become a part of doing His eternal will that our lives make a real difference. We will all be judged on how we do His will. Solomon knew that, and I have come to see this, too.

We must set our priorities by what pleases God, not ourselves. We will be much happier this way, because He loves us, and He has instructed us to do what is best for us. Also, we will see eternal good done, when we worship and obey Him. Then, when our lives on earth come to an end, and we stand before Him, we will receive a reward, instead of everything we have done being burned up.

Read Ecclesiastes carefully, because it can be misunderstood by the casual reader. Notice that Solomon has truly given us the key to life that lasts forever. It is knowing, fearing, and obeying God.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ecclesiastes 4-6.
