Too Much For You

God does not want us to wear ourselves out physically, mentally, and emotionally in serving Him. He does not want us to do too much or too little. God will show us ways to do His will so that we are not worn out in the process, and we bear much fruit. God sent Moses' father-in-law to show him what to do when he was leading about 2 million people in the wilderness.(Exodus 18:17,18) Jethro's advice is good for all of us.

As believers, we want to do everything we can to serve the Lord and advance His kingdom. It is a joy to serve Him and other people. We are tempted to say "yes" to too many things, or to attempt to do too much for the Lord. Also, we have the tendency to try to do everything ourselves, instead of asking others to help us. We must learn to say "no" when God shows us something is too much for us, and we must learn to ask others to help by delegating responsibilities to them in appropriate ways. It is a challenge, but it is God's way of doing His work. He doesn't want to harm us and others. He wants everyone to be healthy and happy, physically and spiritually.

Just think about Moses trying to judge all of those people. He was worn down by long hours. They were  worn down by waiting in line. When he chose men to help him, and he did the hardest cases, more people were taught God's laws and more people were involved in His ministry, so God was able to bless even more people. Do not try to hog all of God's blessings yourself. Spread them around by involving others. Also, remember that the body, soul, and spirit are all connected. When your body is worn out, it affects your spirit and soul negatively. Therefore, we all need to rest and to exercise to be healthy spiritually. If you are too busy to rest and to keep yourself in shape, you are doing more than God wants you to do, and you will wear yourself out. Let's not do too much. Let's do just what God wants us all to do, and watch Him work in and through us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 20-22.
