God's Great Works

When the Israelites walked across the Red Sea on dry ground and then, saw the Egyptians drown as the waters returned, it made a huge impression on them.(Exodus 14:31) God knows what it takes to get our attention. When we see these things happening, we can trust Him or turn away. We have all seen people go both ways.

The right kind of fear towards the Lord is very important. Some people can see great works of God and remain proud and rebellious. The right response is to respect Him and to be so in awe of Him that we do His will, knowing what He could do if we disobey.

God's great works lead us to believe in Him by trusting Him, too. We see His power, that He is real, and that He is worthy of our confidence in every way. He proves Himself to us, so we will decide to follow Him. Also, God uses people to do His great works, so we will trust them. God does not want us to put a person before Him, but He wants us to recognize those He uses and follow their example.

The crossing of the Red Sea has been called the salvation experience of the nation of Israel. They were delivered from bondage and their enemies. They were brought face to face with God, and they put their trust in Him. We have the same experience when we come to know the Lord. He proves Himself to us, and we fear Him, trust Him, and follow the leaders He has put into our lives. I pray that each of us know Him in this way.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 17-19.
