Being Different

Aaron and his sons served as priests in the Tabernacle and later in the Temple. They were to wear different clothes than the people who came to them to offer sacrifices to the Lord. I believe the clothes were symbolic of something much more important. These men were to be different, but not just in how they dressed.(Exodus 28:41) They were to be "anointed, consecrated and sanctified" for God's service. This is still true for us today.

Now, all believers are to be priests. We can all go to the Lord. We can all help others draw near to Him and know Him. Therefore, all believers, men and women of all ages should be anointed, consecrated, and sanctified for His service. The anointing with oil symbolized the fullness of the Holy Spirit on their lives. The word consecrate means to be set apart for a special service or position. We are sanctified by being separated from sin, and we are set apart to be used by God. Isn't that a great picture for us? Each Christian needs to make it a priority to be filled with the Spirit every day. We must go through our daily lives knowing that our most important role is to bring people to know the Lord. Therefore, we must be clean vessels for God to fill and to use, so we confess our sins, and we stay away from those things that would hinder our witness.

Think about it. That would make each of us so different from those around us. We don't need a turban, an ephod, and a breastplate. We will stick out because of how we talk and act. I hope they will be able to see it in our faces, too. When they see us being different, and we are different in God's power, we can fulfill our function as priests and see many people come to the Lord.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Exodus 29-32.
