Secure or Defenseless?

The book of Nahum is a dire prophesy against Nineveh and the Assyrians. They had repented under Jonah's preaching, and God turned away His anger. However, by the time of Nahum, they had returned to their sin, and God was going to punish them. Nahum delivers the message of a good God, who protects His own with great security, but those who do not know Him are defenseless.(Nahum 1:7)

God is good. He is a secure stronghold for us in times of trouble, if we know Him. Once we come to know Christ, we enter that secure relationship which brings the benefits of God's protection. That does not mean bad things will not happen to us. It means only the things God allows to happen will come into our lives, and He will be there to help us with each one.

However, if we don't know Him, we are defenseless like the Assyrians. There is no stronghold against the wrath of God. Once He is determined to judge sin and sinful people, there is no remedy. I urge you to turn to Jesus today, so you can become one of His, and you can be truly secure in Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Habakkuk 1-3.
