Our Priorities Matter to God

The message of the book of Haggai is easy to grasp. It is a timeless message, even though it was delivered to the Jews who returned from the exile in Babylon to rebuild the Temple and the city of Jerusalem. God will not bless any believer whose priority is to prosper himself, but to neglect the work of the Lord.(Haggai 1:9) In fact, God will make sure that we, as believers, do not prosper if we do not make Him and His work our first priority.

Jesus said the same thing in Matthew 6:33 when He delivered what we call the "Sermon on the Mount." God's provision goes to those who seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. It is God's way of teaching us that life is not about us, but it is about Him. He cares for the whole world, and so should we. If we are selfish and hoard what God gives us for our own needs and desires, we are not having God's priorities, so He won't bless us. If we put Him first, He multiplies what we have so we can be a conduit through which He can pour resources into His work to reach the world.

God has set the agenda in the Great Commission, Matthew 28:19,20. Believers have a choice to make. Will we do what it takes to make disciples of all people groups or not? If we do not move on God's agenda, why should He bless us?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Zechariah 2-5.
