The Nature of Heaven

This morning our men finished up our study of and discussion about Luke 20:34-38 where Jesus told the Sadducee's and His disciples about the nature of our lives in Heaven. We had a great time exploring Revelation 20, I Corinthians 13:10-13, and I Peter 3:7-12, as well as the text of Luke 20. I believe all of us are excited about going to Heaven, and we want to know what to expect.

Jesus made several things very clear. Heaven is not going to be like earth. It is going to be a new age, and things are going to be new. There will be no marrying or giving in marriage. We will be like angels, but not angels. We will be very much alive for eternity with the Lord and everyone who was saved by grace through faith in the Lord. We have have a wonderful place to live, which He has prepared for us, and we will have perfect relationships with everyone, because we will be fully known, and others will fully know us. What a glorious, sure hope we have!

The truth that comes across loud and clear from Jesus is that we will not be engaged in earthly relationships or procreation. Those religions and cults that say otherwise are false. Heaven is about Him, not us. Even though we will be there, He will be the center of all. We will be there to glorify Him totally, not to fulfill our fleshly desires. Heaven will be knowing God fully and doing His will perfectly, so if you don't like worship and service, you won't like Heaven. In fact, you need to make sure you are going to be there. Luke 20:35 talks about those who are "counted worthy to attain that age." Jesus told us in the Sermon on the Mount that only a few will enter the narrow gate to eternal life. Jesus is looking at our hearts, and He knows if we are surrendered to Him as Lord, or just looking for blessing here and in Heaven.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 108 -110.
