Redeeming the Time

Every day is a gift from God. What we do with the time He gives us is our gift back to him. That is a popular saying, but is it true? I believe every day we live is a gift from God. It is only by His grace that we live and move and have our being. However, Jesus is Lord. We do not give Him gifts by what we do with our time. We either obey him or disobey the Lord of glory. He has set the priorities for our time. We do not do that.

We redeem the time from the evil age in which we live, as we obey Him and fill our days doing His will. What is His will? He has commanded us to "make disciples." We are to be busy about intentionally impacting the lives of other people to bring them to know Christ and to help them grow into His likeness. This includes family, friends, neighbors, and associates. Everything else we do with our time pales in comparison to making disciples.

Therefore, we might have done a lot of hard work today. We may have done some good things with our time. However, how much time and effort did we spend making disciples? That is the ringing question for today and every day. To actively redeem the time we must eliminate things that interfere with the "main thing" and concentrate on touching lives for Him.

The world did not come to an end today, but it will end for each of us one day by Jesus coming or by death. How many people will spend eternity in heaven because of how we spent our days on this earth?

Tomorrow, I intend to read Job 29-31.
