Prayerlessness

This morning we had a good group of men gather for our study in Luke 18. We went over the parable of the judge who did not fear God or regard men, but he did give in to the woman who persisted in wanting her case heard. This is a parable to teach us to pray and not to quit praying until we get God's answer. However, the parable ends by asking if God will find faith on the earth when Jesus comes back again. That gives us a clue about the further meaning of Jesus' remarks.

When we fail to pray, we show God several things. We show a lack of trust in Him. We reveal that we think we can do it all on our own. That is faithlessness. We also show that we are not concerned about finding God's will. If we don't stop to ask Him to show us His will, it is not important to us. We may say we trust God, and we want to know His will, but our lack of prayer shows a very different picture. Therefore, we can simply conclude that prayerlessness reveals a lack of faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God. So without a consistent prayer life, we are not pleasing God. This is a serious problem for any believer. We need to take this parable to heart, and make prayer a daily priority.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Chronicles 18-20.
