Walk as Children of Light

This morning I was able to make it back to the chapel service for our North Henry Academy. It was wonderful to see all of the children and the teachers. I always desire to give them a message that applies directly to them as children. Sometimes, it is more in depth than at other times. This morning I challenged them to walk as children of light from Ephesians 5:8. What does that verse mean to you? The meaning is obvious when you look at the whole verse.

Before we are saved we walk or live in darkness. Darkness is sin. It is anything and everything that is opposed to God's way and truth. Satan tempts us to live in darkness, but also, our flesh, other people, and this world tempt us. It is up to each individual to decide that darkness is wrong and to turn to the light. God is Light. When we turn to Him, we decide to trust Him and His truth. We believe that Jesus died for us and shed His blood to pay for our sins. We confess Him as Lord of our lives. Then, we begin to walk in the light. It is a lifelong journey to walk in the light of the Lord. We can't do it perfectly, but we can do it with the help of the Holy Spirit. Our lives must be focused on following the Light.

I told the children and I will tell you, "Stay away from the darkness." Staying out all night and doing those things people do in darkness will destroy you. Instead, decide to live in the light. Do God's will. Begin with confessing Christ as Lord of your life and putting your faith in Him, who died for you. Then, continue to walk in the Light of the Lord until you get to Heaven. He will help you. You have to do it by faith, because you can't do it yourself. However, it is the only way to really trust God. If we don't do what He says, we don't really trust Him or have faith in Him.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 17-19 and Ephesians 5:17-33.
