Loving the Lord Completely

This morning I had the privilege of speaking to the parents of our North Henry Academy preschoolers. It was great to see the children, so full of life and potential. They sang some songs and quoted some Bible verses. The were very cute.

When I addressed the parents, I made the point from Deuteronomy 6 that the main thing for us to do is to love the Lord with all of our heart, mind, and soul. That is really very simple isn't it? Love is not hard. It is a commitment we choose to make, but once we make that decision, it is wonderful to express our love to someone, even God. Unfortunately, most people have not come to know the joy of loving God in that way.

That is why I told the parents about loving God and not forgetting Him. The children can learn to love the Lord in the academy. They can learn the Bible and a lot of great songs. However, their parents will be a major influence on them. If they don't see that godly love for the Lord in their parents, they will probably not decide to make that commitment in their lives either. That is a terrible shame. We know the truth, but we don't live it. Then, we pass on our apathy toward God to our children, whom we love so much. I pray that we will wake up to what it means to love the Lord completely. I believe it will be contagious if we will show others what it is like, especially our children.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 4-6 and Luke 24:36-53.
