God Does What Pleases Him
I have to do some things that are not very pleasing to me. I have to clean the house regularly, even the bathrooms, which can be a messy job. I get to cut the grass every week or so this time of year. It takes about 2 hours of my time that I could be doing something more fun. Of course, there is always doing the laundry each week, too. Those things are necessary chores, but if I had a way of not doing them, I might take that path.
When it comes to God, He has a totally different situation. He is Ruler over all of His creation. He never has to do anything that doesn't please Him. Of course, He always does the right thing, too. The psalmist affirmed this truth for us. (Psalm 135:6) "The Lord does whatever pleases Him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths." You might think this doesn't have anything to do with you, but it actually has a lot of implications for all of us.
When we pray, we can talk God about anything. We can ask Him to bless us in various ways. Sometimes, He gives us what we are asking and sometimes He doesn't. The reason He says no to our requests is that we are asking for something that is not pleasing to Him. We have to modify our request, so that it is something which the Bible says is pleasing to God. Then, we can get what we ask for.
Also, sometimes we might try to coerce God to do something for us. We think if we beg enough He will give in to us. We think if we keep asking for a long time, He will give in. It never works that way. God can't be forced to do anything that is not pleasing to Him. We need to stop trying, because we are trying His patience when we don't pray and act according to this truth. I pray that this was helpful for all of us not to be frustrated by God or to frustrate Him.
