Keeping Perfect Peace in Us
Peace of mind and heart are essential factors in living a joyful life. When we lack peace, there is the presence of strife and confusion, which rob our joy. Therefore, we all need to know how to keep peace in our minds and hearts, don't we? The hardest part of doing that is that it doesn't come from our reasoning ability or our personality. That peace only comes as a gift from God. We need to know how to receive His gift of peace and to enjoy it all the time.
Isaiah knew the way to receive the peace of God and to keep it. (Isaiah 26:3) He assured us that God will keep us in perfect peace if our minds are stayed on Him, because we will be trusting in God. Trusting God is the key. If we are really trusting God all the time, our minds will be stayed on Him, watching for Him to show us what we should do. Let me explain.
We fail to have peace because we are not sure what to do in all the circumstances of life. I am talking about small decisions and big decisions. We try to figure out what is right. We do research. We ask other people. We look at all of the options. All of that just makes things worse, because we can't tell all of the factors and know all of the potential problems. That leads to a lack of peace.
On the other hand, if we have our minds stayed on the Lord, we are not trying to figure out what to do. We are asking God to show us what to do every step of the way. He does this through His Word, and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. So when we hear from the Lord, we trust what He has told us, and we do it. Then, He gives us peace, because we know that His ways are always best. Knowing that keeps our hearts in perfect peace.
