God's Word Stands Forever
This time of year the grass grows so quickly that I end up having to cut my yard every week. It gets a little tiring, and I look forward to the days when the weather will cool off, and the days will get shorter, so the grass will wither, and I won't have to cut it. However, at the same time I like the beauty of flowers, but the same thing happens to them. They fade away, too. However, there is something that is wonderful that lasts forever.
Isaiah told us about the grass and the flower, but then, He told us about what is eternal and never withers or fades. (Isaiah 40:8) He assured us under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that "the grass withers, and the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever." In this passage the grass and the flower represent us, as people. We are withering and fading physically. We need the word of God as our steady, lasting, unchanging guide for our lives.
It is not a lot of fun getting older because we have a lot more aches and pains. Our hair falls out or turns gray or both. We have to go to all kinds of doctors and take more medicines on a regular basis. We can see our earthly life slipping away a little at a time. In the midst of our withering and fading, we need something that never changes to keep us on track spiritually. That is one reason why God gave us His word.
I believe there are a lot of people, even Christians, who neglect to base their lives on the Word of God. They fail to read it and study it. They don't know what it says. Therefore, when life starts falling apart for various reasons, they start slipping into depression and a feeling of hopelessness. That is never God's will. He wants us to have our minds transformed by His Word, so we think about things the way He does, and we see what He is doing to take us from this world to the perfect eternal home of heaven. When we stand on God's Word we will rejoice in our fading, because we know He will make all things new one day.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 41-43.
