The Humility of God

We think a lot about the humility of Jesus Christ. We read in Philippians 2:5-11 about how He left heaven to become a man which was very humbling. However, then Jesus was so humble that He went to the cross and died the worst death possible and shed His blood for our sins. Christ's humility is amazing, and we are commanded to have the same mind of humility in us, as believers.

That being the case, how many of us think of the humility of God, the Father? I know I have not thought about it that much. Most often we think of His awesome power, holiness, and grace. The psalmist assures us of God's humility, too. (Psalm 113:5-6) He asks us, "Who is like the Lord our God, who dwells on high, who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in the heavens and in the earth?" That is a great question for all of us to ponder.

No one is like God. He dwells in the highest Heaven, far above the heavens that surround the earth. His glory is above the heavens. He has everything He needs, and no enemy can ever bring Him down. He has angels and saints to praise Him 24/7 as He sits on His throne. However, what is He doing? He is thinking about His creation, the heavens and the earth. He is so humble that He takes note of every detail.

This psalm assures us that God sees the poor, and as the poor trust in Him, He is ready to raise them up like the princes of His people. He beholds all of the problems of the heavens and the earth, so He can be the loving Father to come to the rescue. So I ask you, "What is your need today?" I pray we will all humble ourselves before our humble God and trust Him to know just what to do for us and do it, as we faithfully trust Him.
