Calming and Quieting Our Souls
I need to speak to us as Christians today. What I will say will not be true for people who do not know the Lord Jesus as personal Lord and Savior. However, this is a very important message for believers.
Have you ever had a problem and found yourself panicking immediately? It just hits you so hard that you are frantic to solve the problem, but you don't know where to turn or what to do. That should never be our testimony if we are a child of God. He never wants us to have that kind of upset in our souls. He wants us to have calm and quiet souls every time
David gives us a great analogy to prove this is true. (Psalm 131:2) He told us that he had calmed and quieted his soul, like a weaned child with his mother. He said his soul was like a weaned child within him. Let's think about that for a minute and let what God is showing us sink in.
Before a baby is weaned off of his mother's milk, they have a fit every time they start to get hungry. They don't know how to feed themselves and they are afraid their mother won't be there to feed them. Usually, she has to calm the child down before they can even start nursing. Can you see that red face and hear those cries? However, once a child is weaned, it is a completely different story.
When we are like a weaned child, we know the Lord is right there with us, and we have graduated from just drinking milk to eating the meat of the Word. Therefore, we know some of the promises of God, and we know how much He loves us, so we don't panic. We calm and quiet our soul by remembering God's Word and His great love for us. Then, we know everything will be OK in His timing, so we wait on the Lord peacefully.
