How to Seek God
One thing we need to do, as Christians, is to make sure we are very specific about how to do what God wants us to do. This is true when we explain how to be saved. We need to be explicit that a person has to repent of their sins, put their faith in Jesus alone to forgive their sins, and to surrender to Jesus as Lord of their life. We must not just say "ask God to forgive your sins." This same principle applies to other things we need to do.
David knew how to seek God. In fact, he gave a lot of specific instructions for seeking God. (Psalm 63:1) David's confession was that God was his God, and he would seek Him early. David admitted that his soul thirsted for God, and his flesh longed for Him in a dry and thirsty land where there was no water. I believe we can learn from this confession.
We don't need to wait until nighttime or another convenient time to seek God. We need to discipline ourselves to see God early in the day, even making it the first thing we do to start our day. After all, He is our God, and Christ is the One who saved us from our sins. We owe Him everything. We need the Spirit to nourish us in the morning, just like we need a good breakfast.
We need to begin with praying to God to quench the thirst in our soul and to fill the longings we have in our flesh. When we seek God, we should do it as a thirsty person going for cool water. We should pour out the longings of our flesh to God. He is our Source for all we need. We must not go to this thirsty world to get refreshed. The world has nothing to offer us that is satisfying. When we seek God like David did, we will find that He will meet us every day and satisfy us in every area of life.
