Total Commitment

There are some things in life that call for us to make a commitment. This is true when we buy a new car or a house. We make the commitment to make the payments on time, or else they will take it back from us. However, there are some things that call for an extra strong commitment, like going into the military. That choice could cost us our life. There are some situations that call for even more commitment, though.

Esther was queen of Persia, and she had to decide what to do to help her people, the Jews. She could approach the king with her request, but that might cost her her life. So Esther came up with a plan. (Esther 4:16) She asked her uncle, Mordecai, to gather all of the Jews in the capital city of Shushan to fast for her three days and three nights. She and her maids would fast, too. Then, she would go to the king to plead for her people to be spared. He could put her to death for doing that, but she was ready to perish if that is what happened. That took total commitment.

So, the question for us today is this, "For what would we be willing to die?" What would be so important that we would give our lives to see that happen? I believe there are some mothers and fathers who would give their lives for their children to be saved from death. I am sure there are others who would be willing to sacrifice their lives for the sake of another person, like a Secret Service agent would do for the president. Those acts are very noble.

The most important commitment is when we are willing to die for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After all, He died for us. Would we willingly risk our life to serve Him or to tell others about Him? Do we have that kind of total commitment to Christ? I believe that is what He is looking for in each of us, as believers. I believe that is the commitment that the world needs to see from us.
