Accepting Adversity

None of us like to have adversity in our lives. We all have it, and it comes from various sources. We all need to simply accept the fact that while we are in this world, we will have tribulation. Sometimes, in fact, I think most of the time, we bring the problems on ourselves. They come because of our sins or bad choices. However, there are other times when God allows bad things to come into our lives. It is those instances that we need to think about today.

That was the situation in which Job found himself, when God allowed Satan to take all of Job's possessions and children, as well as his health. When that happened, his wife urged him to curse God and die. (Job 2:10) Job told her that she was speaking like one of the foolish women. Then, he asked her, "Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?" What Job said was right, and he did not sin with his lips through all of his troubles.

We all like to receive the blessings of God. It is so good to receive those things that are more than we really deserve. It shows us His love for us. We love to receive His good and perfect gifts which come from above. These things should convince us of His love and care for us. However, we need to see the same thing when God allows adversity to come upon us.

God never does anything without a purpose. God is not mean. He loves us, and when He allows adversity, it is to make us stronger. After all of Job's adversity, he came out with a closer relationship with God than he had before. He was not really hurt in any lasting way. It was a temporary trial, and once it was over, Job was better than before. That is why we need to learn how to accept adversity from God without getting angry with Him and just rest in His love.
