Two Wings of the Great Eagle
The book of Revelation was written by the apostle John. He was inspired by God, and he wrote just what he saw and heard from the Lord. There is a lot of symbolic language which is somewhat hard to understand. However, if we remember the rest of the Bible, it is much easier to understand.
In chapter 12 we read a story of a woman who has a baby and a serpent who tries to destroy her and her child. (Revelation 12:14) Then the two wings of the great eagle were given to her, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place for a time, times, and a half time, away from the presence of the serpent. That is a beautiful picture of what God will do to protect His people in the Tribulation time.
The woman is symbolic of the people of Israel, the descendants of Abraham. God promised to send the Messiah through his descendants and the family of David to be born of the virgin Mary. The serpent is symbolic of Satan who tried to kill Jesus from the very beginning, but he failed at every turn.
Then, Satan has continued to try to destroy the Jewish people. In the Tribulation he will work through the Antichrist to destroy Israel. However, God will make a safe place for them in the wilderness and protect them for three and a half years until Jesus comes back to rescue them in the battle of Armageddon.
