God-Given Wisdom

Life requires us to make all kinds of decisions. Some of those decisions have huge consequences for us and for others around us. When we make the wrong decision in a matter, we could have to deal with the consequences for a long time. That is why all of us need wisdom. However, most people don't know how to gain wisdom.

Solomon had more wisdom than anyone who has ever lived. (I Kings 4:29) God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of mind, like the sand that is on the seashore. Solomon received this wisdom because he requested it from God. We need to do the same thing ourselves.

The Lord is very clear on this matter. He will give abundant wisdom to anyone who lacks wisdom and who asks Him in faith, not doubting. (James 1:5-6) We have to believe that God is all-wise and that He can and will supply the wisdom we need, as we trust Him for salvation and all of our needs. It is a daily trust in God and not in ourselves.

Once we ask Him in that way, we will have His perspective on our situation. That is God's wisdom for us. He will give us great discernment to be able to know the right thing to do and the right time to do it for us and for others. Also, He will give us great breadth of mind in that we will be able to understand many wonderful things. All of this is possible, if we trust Him and ask Him for it.
