Redemption by His Blood

Sin is a serious matter. It is so serious that God wanted to teach us the ultimate effect of our sins. Yes, death is the result of our sins; it is the wages of sin, as we read in Romans 6:23. To show us this truth God ordained that there would be no remission of sins apart from the shedding of blood. A life had to be given for sins to be forgiven. Blood was the only payment for sin. That is why we say we are redeemed from our sins. Now, in the Old Covenant it was the blood of goats and calves that was shed for the sins of the people. (Hebrews 9:12) Now, the eternal redemption from sins has been obtained by Jesus entering the most holy place, not with the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood. This is an essential truth for all of us to know and appreciate.

Jesus shed His blood for us on the Cross of Calvary. It was there God laid on Him the sins of us all, and He made the payment to forgive all of them once and for all. This payment is applied to all who trust Him as Lord and Savior by turning from sins and surrendering to Him in faith. However, Jesus did not enter the temple on earth like the high priest of Israel had done each year. He went to heaven with His blood and entered the most holy place in God's presence for us. Then, He placed His precious blood on the mercy seat there to atone for our sins forever. What a sight for us to imagine! The Father watching His Only-Begotten Son fulfill His plan for redemption for mankind. Jesus appearing before His Father having submitted to His plan and obeyed Him even to death on the cross, because of His love for all people. What a holy and sacred action! I pray that even at Christmas time, we will remember the ultimate reason Jesus came to be born into this world and give Him the glory due His name.
