Consider Jesus, Our Apostle and High Priest

Jesus was and is totally unique as a Person. He is the only Person who is both God and Man at the same time. Two natures come together to form one Person. He had to become man, so He could pay the price for our sins by shedding His blood and dying for us. It does us good at Christmas time to remember these things and to spend time reflecting on Jesus. That is what the author of Hebrews encouraged all of us to do. (Hebrews 3:1-2) He called on us, as holy brothers and sisters, who share in a heavenly calling to consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession. Jesus was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was in all God's household. What does that tell us about Jesus? Let's consider Him today.

As Christian brothers and sisters we do share in a heavenly calling. We have been saved from our sins and given a place in heaven for eternity by trusting Jesus, the One and Only Lord and Savior. How did that happen and why can Jesus do this for us? First of all, Jesus is the Apostle of our confession. The word apostle means the "sent out one." Jesus was sent by the Father to be our Savior. He came to make the way for us to be saved by His life, death, and resurrection. If He did not come when He was sent, we would be forever lost in our sins. Secondly, He is the High Priest of our Confession. He is the Only Mediator between  God and men, because He became a man, while being God, so He can represent God to us and us to God perfectly. That is what the High Priest does. He stands between the people and God. We have salvation because Jesus was "faithful" to the One who appointed Him. He was faithful to do what the Father said, and now we are able to confess Him as Lord and Savior to be saved. His faithfulness, like the faithfulness of Moses, was exceptional. He fully carried out the will of the Father, so as Moses saved the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt, Jesus has saved us from our sins and made us ready for the Promised Land of Heaven. Jesus is the Only One who could have done all of this, and we need to praise Him and thank Him for His faithfulness to the Father and for our salvation.
