Living as God's Servant
I am sure the life of a household servant can be very challenging. It is hard for most of us to put aside our desires and to live to meet the needs of another person, who is our master. However, in one way it is a simple life. All the servant has to do is to keep his or her eyes focused on the master and do whatever he says. That way the servant Carries out his or her duties well, and the master is happy. The psalmist used this analogy to show us, as believers, what we are to do. (Psalm 123:2) We are to keep our eyes on the Lord of all enthroned in heaven. As we keep our eyes on Him continually, we will do His will until we receive His favor, so we know He is pleased with us. I wonder how we are doing in this regard?
We are so busy in our lives it is hard to keep our eyes on the Lord. We have so many things we could do every day that we must set our priorities. The main priority must be to keep our eyes on the Lord. The best way to do that is to begin our day by focusing on the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Then, it is easier to stay focused on Him the rest of the day. Once we do that, we need to be sensitive to listen to the Holy Spirit, and we must obey all He leads us to do and refrain from doing what He tells us not to do. That is how we will know how the Father wants us to serve Him minute by minute all day long. Believe me, God will work out the timing if we are available and ready to do His will. The key is to not do more than we are to do and not to do less, either. Then, we will have God's favor. He will smile on us then, because we are attentive, faithful servants.
