A Vanishing Harvest

Being a farmer or even just planting a garden for our family can be so difficult. There are so many things that can go wrong so that our harvest vanishes, and we do not receive the fruit of all of our labor. That is so disappointing. More than that we suffer the loss of food or income. In the end we are dependent on God's blessings to bring the rain and the sunshine, as well as, keeping away any other destructive forces. The same is true in our everyday lives. (Isaiah 17:10,11) If we forget the God of our salvation and we fail to remember the Rock of our strength, God will not bless our efforts. We can plant beautiful plants and set out cuttings from exotic vines. Then, we can help them grow and in the morning help the seeds to sprout, but the harvest will vanish on a day of disease and terrible pain. I pray we will learn this lesson, and none of us will suffer from vanishing harvests.

Every day we are doing our best to be productive in life. We work hard at our occupation. We do our best to save money. We invest our money for the future. We can even be industrious and do other things to bring success for our family. However, if we forget the God of our salvation, the Lord Jesus Christ, our work will vanish. If we fail to remember the Rock of our strength, all that we have done will wither and die. Instead of having health and contentment, we will see disease and pain. Why is this true? God knows that if we do not know Him and rely on Him on a daily basis, we will miss heaven. That is the ultimate failure in life. Therefore, He lovingly tries to get our attention by speaking to our hearts and sending people to admonish us. If we fail to listen, then God has to send disease or something else painful to get our attention in an effort to deliver us from eternity in Hell. He did that for Israel in the Old Testament, and He does it for us today. I wonder if we are listening, or if we are just upset because our harvest keeps vanishing, and our work keeps failing? Please, stop and listen to the Lord. Let's never forget the Lord Jesus. Let's depend on the Rock of our strength, not on our own power. Then, we will see the blessings of the Lord.
