When Our Spirit is Aroused by God
God knows just how to touch our heart or our spirit, so that we are aroused to do His will. When we are sensitive to the Lord, following His Spirit, this often happens to us, as believers. It is not that God speaks audibly to us. It is not even that He speaks to our spirit with a distinct message like He does at times when that is necessary. When God arouses our spirit we have the unmistakable desire to take part in a ministry opportunity that is presented to us. When that happens, we should always obey, whatever it takes. In the days of King Cyrus of Persia he gave the command for the temple in Jerusalem to be rebuilt by the people of Judah and Benjamin who were in exile. Therefore, the king gave permission for any of the Jewish people to take part in this endeavor. (Ezra 1:5) When the king made that proclamation, all of the heads of Judah and Benjamin, along with the priests and Levites - everyone who spirit was aroused by God - prepared to go up and rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. God made it plain to certain ones, and they left Babylon to go to Jerusalem to do His will. This is a good lesson for all believers.
As Christians we are to live in constant communication with the Lord. We are to be sensitive to whatever He desires for us to say and to do. The reason this is possible is that every one of us, as human beings, was created by God with a spirit. Our spirit is the part of us that can communicate with God. We also have a soul and a body. Our spirit sets us apart from animals, because God created us to have fellowship with Him. He made us in His image, so we are like Him in certain ways. One of those ways is that we have close relationships, we love other people, and we can communicate that love, so our relationships are very fulfilling. In a relationship we have to respond to the communication from the other person. The closer we get to this person the more our spirit senses what they want us to do. This is especially true in our relationship with the Lord. Therefore, God knows how to arouse our spirit to show us what He wants us to do, and because we love Him, we do it. If you have not had your spirit aroused by God very much, it is a sign that your relationship is not what it should be. It shows you are not staying in contact with God continually, as He designed. I would encourage all of us to pursue this type of close relationship with the Lord. It is what enables us to live the abundant Christian life and walk in His will every day. Then, we grow closer and closer to the Lord, and we have the life He planned for us.
