Having the Will to Work
Many people dislike working. In fact, many people think that if they could stop working and spend all of their time in leisure, then, they would be happy. I believe that is a false belief. Also, many people only want to do the work they want to do and no more than that. They do not want to engage in work with other people for the good of the group. If we did that, we would never see anything worthwhile done for our society and the area in which we live. No, work is good. It was ordained by God before the fall. When we work ourselves, and we work together with others, great things can be done. Nehemiah found out this fact, as they were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. (Nehemiah 4:6) Each group of people built their section of the wall or they built one of the gates, until the entire wall was rebuilt up to half its height. This did not take too much time or effort because the people had the will to keep working, even though it was hard work. This is a vital lesson for all of us today.
What kind of work needs to be done around our house, at our job, or at our church? Who will do the work? If we are selfish with our time, and we fail to work together with others, we will never see those things done. If we think "somebody else" will do it, it may never get done. Remember, what we leave for somebody to get done, ends up being done by "nobody." Instead, we need to be willing to do the work and to enlist others to work with us. Yes, we might not be a leader, like Nehemiah, but at least, we can volunteer to do our part and to work cheerfully. When that happens, we see God's will done in many ways. It will make things so much better around our home. It will make our work environment much happier. At church, we will see souls saved and lives changed because brothers and sisters in Christ come together to do God's will and do it well. Yes, let's keep it in our hearts that work is good, and let's do our part to see what God will do in us and through us as we work willingly.
