Pure Words

We hear all types of words from many different sources. Of course, others speak to us. We read words from the pages of books and from the Internet. We are bombarded by words, but which ones are good for us and which ones are harmful. Surely, we must be discerning about the words that we take in and what they cause us to think about. There is one way to know that we are receiving the right words with the right messages. (Psalm 12:6) The words of the Lord are pure words. They are so pure that they are like silver refined in an earthen furnace purified seven times. I pray we can all see worth of God's pure words for us.

The word pure means "unmixed." This is just like saying "pure silver." It means the silver is not mixed with any other metals or impurities. When something is pure, its real value is amplified to be as high as possible. God's words are pure in this way. There is nothing mixed with them that distorts the truth. Instead, the truth shouts forth, loud and clear. There is nothing in God's words that is wrong or in error. We can trust them to be reliable. His words always lead us in the right direction. They show us how to get where God wants us to be. They are very clear in what they say, so we do not misunderstand them on whatever subject they address. See what I mean? We can't go wrong taking in God's pure words by reading the Bible and listening intently for the Lord to speak His words to us. I pray we will all do this as much as possible, and we would limit the impure words getting into our ears and our minds. That way we fill our lives with the best things, and we do not have to ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse us so much.
