Sun, Stand Still

There are many notable miracles in the Bible. Some are very easy to understand. It is easy to see how God could heal someone or cast out a demon. However, there are others that are more difficult to explain. When the walls of Jericho fell at the shout of the people and the sound of the rams' horns that is harder to explain. Some have said it was the sound waves from 2 million people shouting, but I am not sure how it happened. Then, we read about the most difficult miracle to explain. Joshua spoke to the Lord in front of everyone. (Joshua 10:12,13) He said, "Sun stand still over Gibeon and moon, over the valley of Aijalon" Immediately the sun and moon stopped to give Israel more time to take vengeance on their enemies. This event was even recorded in another, non-Biblical book, the Book of Jashur, since it was so amazing. What do we need to take away from this miracle? Let's think about it.

We must not limit God. He is without limits on His power, wisdom, and love, as well as His other perfect attributes. We must never let ourselves think that we have to be able to understand something before we can ask God for it. I am sure Joshua had no idea about the sun standing still, but the earth turning that made it look like the sun was moving. I am also sure that He did not realize we could not live if the earth stopped turning, because we would burn up or freeze to death. However, He poured His heart out to God, and God did what He asked. We will never understand it, but our God did it easily.  He can and does do the same kinds of things today, if we will trust Him and pour out our hearts to Him, as we seek to do His will. God is looking at our heart. When He sees faith and the desire for His will, He can overcome any obstacle to seeing it happen. Let's believe Him, cry out to Him for His will to be done, and watch to see what He does.
