Worship and Obey

There really is a simple formula for following the Lord well. It is not rocket science, at all. God has shown us what to do. He has told us to worship Him only, no other gods, or idols. If we do this, our focus is on God alone and giving Him all of our faith and love. Then, we obey all that He tells us in His Word and as we pray to Him. If we constantly do those two things, we will stay close to God in our walk with Him. We see an example of this at the end of the book of Joshua. (Joshua 24:24) The people listened to their leader Joshua, as he exhorted them to quit worshiping idols and obey the Lord. The people decided that was the right way to go, and they made that commitment to the Lord. I wonder if we will make the same decision right now?

Worship is much more than singing songs of praise, praying, and hearing a message from God's Word. Worship is when we give all of our devotion to the Lord. It is when we proclaim to Him and others in word and in song that He is worthy of all of our faith, love, and energy. If we do not do those things, we have not worshipped. If we do those things with all our heart, we will obey the Lord and His laws for us. There will be no question about what we will do, because He is Lord of all and Lord of our life. That is why I say that if we will worship and obey, we will have the abundant life Jesus said we would have once we put our trust in Him as Lord and Savior. I pray we will all make the same decision that Israel made to Joshua and see how wonderful it is to walk with the Lord every day.
